About the Instructor

Deb conducting an early spring workshop Deborah Kates is a third-generation gardener and certified "Master Composter" who has been growing organically since the late 1970s. She loves helping people understand how to grow food without synthetic chemicals so they can dig on stress release, good nutrition, exercise, saving money, positive mental health, optimism and feeding the soul. Plus, lower medical bills, a better outlook on life, engagement with the outdoors, and helping keep toxis chemicals out of our water supplies and our bodies - all benefits of getting into the amazing, multi-dimensional, self-educating, earthy, and erotic world that is growing organically! Her goal is to present information in an engaging and fun way that is accessible to all. Interest in organics is exploding because, beyond health benefits, people want to know where their food comes from in these times of unpredictable weather, economy, and food safety. And these survival skills offer a sense of security, control, and satisfaction - as well as enjoyment.

Deborah gives private group and individual talks at her home in Chester County, Pennsylvania (just west of Philadelphia), will come to your location as a private gardening coach, and offers Let's Get Dirty! and Let's Jam! seminars and workshops at venues in the Chester and Montgomery Counties, as well as Center City Philadelphia. Her clients include employee wellness programs/series for Aclaris Therapeutics, Aqua America, the Chester County Government, Chester County and Brandywine Hospitals, the Coatesville Veterans Administration Medical Center, DSM Biomedical, Independence Blue Cross, the National Iron and Steel Heritage Museum, The Pennsylvania Dept. of Environmental Resources, Shire Pharmaceuticals, Sikorsky Aircraft Corp., Valley Forge Historical Park, and Weston Solutions. She has also instructed for the ACAC Fitness Center, Chester County Night School, the Chester County Public Library system, Downingtown Area Recreation Consortium, Kimberton Whole Foods, Montgomery County Community College, and the Twin Valleys and Valley Garden Clubs, as well as farmer's markets, senior centers, and private groups.

"Deborah's programs are always very popular with the public. They are entertaining as well as informative. She is knowledgeable and witty, and I'm not sure which people like best – the content or her personality. I think it's close!"
